MTN Nigeria has launched new tariff plans: MTN Family and Friends Xpanded, MTN FunLink Reloaded and MTN Super Saver plan. To me, they are still expensive considering what other Networks in the country are offering now. In this post, I will brief you about the new plans.
UPDATE: MTN Nigeria has updated the plans.
MTN Family and Friends Xpanded
MTN Family and Friends Xpanded is a prepaid plan that allows you register up to 10 Family and Friends numbers and enjoy rates as low as 17 kobo per second on calls to your 8 MTN registered numbers and 20 kobo per second on calls to 2 other networks that you register as your Family and Friends ( one number on other network and one US or Canada number).
Enjoy 50 kobo per second for calls to MTN numbers and other networks not in your MTN Family and Friends list.

MTN FunLink Reloaded

MTN Super Saver plan
If you are on the MTN Super Saver plan, your MTN2MTN calls will be charged at 58 kobo per second for the first 1 minute. Calls extending beyond 1 minute to 4 minutes will be charged at 20 kobo per second while calls from 5 minutes and above will be charged at 17 kobo per second.
On the other hand, your MTN2Other calls will be charged at 58 kobo per second for the first 1 minute. Calls extending beyond 1 minute to 4 minutes will be charged at 30 kobo per second while calls from 5 minutes and above will be charged at 25 kobo per second.
You will also enjoy calls at 20 kobo per second to UK landline, China, US and Canada.
No access fees and no hidden charges on this plan and you can make Happy Hour calls from 12.30am – 04.30am at 10 kobo per second to any MTN number. NO Free Call on this plan too.
What are common to these plans?
SMS MTN – MTN: 5 Naira per SMS sent
SMS MTN – Other Networks in Nigeria: 10 Naira per SMS sent
SMS International: 15 Naira per SMS sent
MMS: 60 Naira per MMS sent
DATA: 5 Kobo per Kilobyte
Will I be charged if I change Plans?
Well, First change in 30 days: FREE but Next change within 30 days: NGN100.00
Looking carefully at the plans, you will see they are somehow complicated and still expensive. What is 3Mb when Etisalat is giving 15Mb??? Globacom even makes you call all networks at a flat rate of 25k/sec with NO HIDDEN CHARGES. Aitel also has very good plans and freebies. So, why cant MTN too do something close?
I just hope they will change soonest….
