Many poor and vulnerable households in Nigeria scheme are benefiting from the Conditional Cash Transfer scheme of the Federal Government funded Social Investment Programme, which is giving N5000 a month to some of the poorest Nigerians across the country.
The beneficiaries get N5, 000 per month, get trained to be able to do business and also get support both financial and technical for starting their small businesses.
The states that are currently benefitting from the poverty alleviation program were chosen because they have an existing social register that identifies the most vulnerable and poorest Nigerians in their localities through a community-based targeting method designed by the World Bank. However, other states have already begun developing their social registers and would be included in subsequent phases of the CCT implementation.
The Government of Nigeria partnered with the World Bank under a National Social Safety Nets Project (NASSP) to support the development of the safety nets in Nigeria. The Government prioritized social protection interventions as a key strategy towards reducing poverty and socio-economic vulnerabilities in the population.
To implement NASSP, the Government has established a National Social Safety Net Coordinating Office (NASSCO) to coordinate existing social safety net programs at the Federal level, and a National Cash Transfer Office (NCTO) to operate safety nets transfers to targeted poor and vulnerable households across Nigeria.

- National Homegrown School Feeding Programme, which aims to provide meals to school children; and
- Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), which provides soft loans ranging from N10,000 to N100,000 for artisans, traders, market women, amongst others.
Regarding the N-power programme, thousands of beneficiaries have now been physically verified and they have started receiving their monthly stipends of N30,000. The verified graduates have been deployed to work as assistant teachers in schools, as community health aides and as agricultural extension workers across the country.
Under GEEP, thousands of cooperatives, market women associations, farmers and enterprising youths have been identified and registered. And the disbursement of the soft loans through the Bank of Industry commenced since November 25th last year.
As for the National Home-grown School Feeding programme, the first phase of the programme aims to feed 5.5 million school children for 200 school days.
