The public offer for shares in Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has been extended by two weeks, giving prospective investors more time to participate in the share sale.
The offer, which opened on September 14, 2026, was initially scheduled to close on October 13. However, the company announced on Monday, October 12, that the closing date had been moved to October 27, 2026, following approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
According to the Dangote Group, the extension follows strong investor interest across Africa and is intended to give more people an opportunity to invest in the refinery.
Why Was the Dangote Refinery Public Offer Extended?
In a statement released by the Dangote Group on Monday, the company explained that the extension was not driven by a need to raise additional funds. Instead, it was aimed at broadening access to the share offer and allowing more African investors to participate.
The additional two weeks are expected to give prospective investors more time to complete the requirements for participating in the offer, including opening investment accounts, verifying their identities and completing other regulatory procedures.
The company also said it was working to expand access across African markets through wider distribution channels and unsponsored depository receipt programmes designed to facilitate cross-border investment.
These measures are intended to make it easier for eligible investors outside Nigeria to access the offer.

Dangote Refinery CEO Comments on the Extension
David Bird, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE, welcomed the SEC’s approval of the extension.
He said the additional time would allow more investors across the continent to participate in the company’s future growth.
According to Bird, the company’s ambition from the beginning has been to enable as many people as possible to participate in the initial public offering (IPO) and share in the refinery’s future growth.
The extension, therefore, provides more time for prospective investors to explore the offer and complete the necessary procedures before the new deadline.
