Microsoft Surface Price in Nigeria

Microsoft has announced the pricing for Surface; the Microsoft tablet which blurs the line between tablets and ultrabooks and as expected, it’s priced aggressively to compete with the Apple iPad.

Microsoft Surface will be offered in two flavors. The entry level one will run Windows RT for ARM based chips, while the fully tricked out version will be running Windows 8 Pro. The pricing that was announced is for the Microsoft Surface with  Windows RT.

The Surface starts at $499 for an entry-level 32GB version without the Touch Cover, while one with the cover costs $599. The 64GB version with the touch cover included costs $699 as seen on the pre-order pricing page.

If we are to convert the pricing above to Nigerian currency, the 32GB version without the touch cover will cost around N80, 000 in Nigeria while the one with cover will cost around N95, 000. The 64GB version with the touch cover will cost around N112, 000.

Surface will be available in some selected countries beginning October 26, though you can pre-order. If you pre-order this version now, it will only be delivered to you in three weeks.

The Windows RT tablet is pre-loaded with Windows RT, Microsoft Office 2013 RT2, Xbox apps, and other essentials. It’s worth noting that in Microsoft’s own words, “Surface with Windows RT works exclusively with apps from the Windows Store“. The Touch Cover is an amazingly thin and ultra-light dual keyboard cover, with a spill-resistant surface which comes in several vibrant colors to express your personal style.

What’s your take on this Microsoft Surface pricing? Do you think the pricing can sway potential iPad  and Android tablet buyers in Nigeria?
