Gmail reply-to Not Working? Try This
The contact form on my blog is powered by Contact form 7 plugin for WordPress.
I set it up in such a way that if I receive the sender’s message in my gmail inbox (gsuite precisely), all I need to do is to click REPLY and I will be able to reply the sender. This is possible because the sender’s email is automatically set as the “reply-to” email address.
But since late last year, the “reply-to” in emails from the contact form stopped putting the sender’s email address in the reply field and instead started placing my email address there, making my replies get sent to myself.
Well, after googling if I am the ony one experiencing this, I discovered that alot of people are complaining about it here and here. Some even claim the problem occurs only when they use the gmail web interface.
Anyway, I’ve been able to fix it for now.
How?
By setting the “from” field to : [your-name] <[your-email]> instead of my email address as seen in the screenshot below :
This throws an error but I was able to save it and it works despite the configuration error that keeps showing there.
UPDATE
I’ve discovered that setting the “from” field to an email address different from the one in the “to” field works perfectly without throwing any error as seen in the screenshot below :

The email address might not be valid but at least must belong to the site domain.
So, if Gmail fails to reply to reply-to email address whenever you try to reply emails from your contact forms, you can try the trick and see if it works for you too.
Hopefully, they will have a permanent fix soon.
