How To Create CName for Domain Names Bought from GoDaddy via Blogger

In some of my previous posts, I shared tutorials on how to edit CName record at Web4Africa.net and Syskay.com but Bloggers that have purchased their custom domain from GoDaddy.com via Blogger.com keep asking me how they can also do the same from their Google Apps dashbaord. Today, I decided to come up with the tutorial. Just follow the steps below carefully.

STEPS

==> Log in to your Google apps dashboard

==> Click on “Domain Settings

==> Click on the “Domain Names” tab

==> Click on the “Advanced DNS Settings” link next to the domain name you want to configure

==> You should now see the Sign-in name, password, and customer pin for your GoDaddy DNS console

==> Click on the “Sign in to DNS Console” link. The log in page to the GoDaddy Domain Control Center will open in another tab/window

==> Enter your Login Name and Password displayed to you earlier. Click the “Secure Login” button

==> If you log in successfully, click on your domain name

==> Click on the “Launch” link right below the “DNS Manager” sub-category. This will open up the “Zone File Editor”

==> Click on the “Add Record” button. This should pop-up a window

==> Select “CName(Alias)” from the “Record Type” drop-down box. You should now see something similar to the picture below:

==> Enter the “alias” and the “host name” respectively and click the OK button

==> If you want the CName to point to your mobstac site, you can enter “m” in the “Alias” field and enter “yourblog.mobstac.com” in the “Points to Host name” field. Leave “TTL” as “1 hour“.  Click OK and Save your settings.

Wait for the servers to effect the changes. This might not be instant.

That’s all.

If you face some challenges or have anything to say with regards to this, please let me know via the comment form below.
